About Surah An-Najm
Surah An-Najm (النجم) is the fifty-third chapter of the Holy Quran. Its name means “The Star.” It is a Makki Surah consisting of 62 ayahs and is contained in the twenty-seventh Juz of the Quran.
Surah An-Najm emphasizes the truth of revelation, the reliability of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in conveying it, and the falsehood of idol worship.
The Surah begins with an oath by the star and states that the Prophet ﷺ did not speak from personal desire when conveying revelation.
It refers to extraordinary signs shown to the Prophet ﷺ and emphasizes that divine revelation is not based on imagination or human guesswork.
The Surah rejects the idols worshipped by the people of Makkah and criticizes beliefs that were built on names, assumptions, and inherited traditions rather than evidence.
It teaches that each person is responsible for his or her own efforts and that no one can simply transfer moral responsibility to another person.
Surah An-Najm concludes by calling people to prostrate and worship Allah, turning the discussion of revelation into a direct call to humble devotion.
