About Surah Al-Mumtahanah
Surah Al-Mumtahanah (الممتحنة) is the sixtieth chapter of the Holy Quran. Its name means “The Woman to be Examined.” It is a Madani Surah consisting of 13 ayahs and is contained in the twenty-eighth Juz of the Quran.
Surah Al-Mumtahanah provides guidance about loyalty, relationships with non-Muslims, and the treatment of believing women who migrated to the Muslim community.
The Surah uses Prophet Ibrahim, peace be upon him, and those with him as an example of maintaining clear commitment to faith while dealing honestly with others.
It distinguishes between people who actively fight or expel believers and those who live peacefully, teaching that kindness and justice are appropriate toward those who are not hostile.
The Surah also addresses women who migrated and required the community to examine their circumstances before returning them to hostile environments.
These instructions combine religious commitment with fairness, responsibility, and protection of vulnerable people.
Surah Al-Mumtahanah encourages believers to keep their loyalty to Allah clear without turning that commitment into injustice toward people who are peaceful.
