About Surah Al-Masad
Surah Al-Masad (المسد) is the one hundred and eleventh chapter of the Holy Quran. Its name means “The Palm Fiber.” It is a Makki Surah consisting of 5 ayahs and is contained in the thirtieth Juz of the Quran.
Surah Al-Masad describes the fate of Abu Lahab and his wife, who were among the strongest opponents of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
The Surah makes clear that family connection to the Prophet ﷺ did not protect Abu Lahab when he actively rejected and opposed the message.
It also states that his wealth and what he earned would not save him from accountability.
His wife is mentioned because of her active participation in hostility and harm.
The Surah demonstrates that social status, money, and family background cannot replace faith and righteous conduct.
Surah Al-Masad warns against using influence and resources to fight truth or harm those who call toward it.
