Trump Asks Dana White to Be White House Press Secretary

US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he has asked mixed martial arts promoter Dana White to serve as White House press secretary.

Trump made the request in a post on Truth Social. He described White, the chief executive of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, as a "violent Fighter and Warrior."

The US President also asked White to bring some fighters along as assistants. Trump said this should happen "even though some are not from our country."

Fighters Trump Wants on the Team

Trump asked for six current or former UFC titleholders to join White. The fighters include:

  • Islam Makhachev and Khabib Nurmagomedov, two athletes from Russia's Dagestan region
  • Americans Justin Gaethje and Daniel Cormier
  • Kayla Harrison, referred to by Trump as "Kayla Harris"
  • Amanda Nunes, a Brazilian native who became an American citizen last year

Trump wrote, "We need these people to defend us against the Lunatic Left."

White and UFC's parent company, TKO Group Holdings, did not immediately return requests for comment.

Previous Press Secretary Let Go

Last month, White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia was "let go." She had held the role for less than a week.

Trump said he told her to reconsider the job after public scrutiny. He told reporters, "I told her: 'I think you're better off being happy, and I'm not sure you can ever be happy in this stuff.' There's nothing easy about this stuff."

Zacharia had acknowledged that she failed the bar exam, which is required to practise law in the United States. She had earlier described herself as a lawyer on television and social media. She also listed herself as general counsel of a California-based conservative nonprofit.
