This claim was revealed in a new medical study in the United States.
According to research from the University of California, sitting all day can be even more terrifying than you expect.
In fact, this habit can make you older sooner or, say, physical age extends eight to ten years longer than your actual age.
Over 100,000 women were evaluated for their physical activity and asked how much time they spend sitting daily.
These data were then scaled to evaluate the length of the telomeres at the center of their DNA’s chromosomes, which play an important role in determining physiological age.
Researchers discovered that as they spend ten hours or more sitting, the length of their telomeres decreases.
However, people who are accustomed to exercising for half an hour daily but then spend the whole day sitting, have an effect on their telomeres, but the aging process is somewhat halted.
According to the research, the telomeres of those who do not exercise are on average 170 base piers smaller than the number of active ones, and with the increase of age, the rate should be only 21 base piers.
The results indicate that spending more time sitting shows you eight to ten years older than you actually are.
